Though this news may come over well to many users, I am not sure how much credibility I would entrust in the tip-off that Android 4.4.2 will be brought to the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2 in the next months. If this is true, it would happen only a few months after both devices finally received the software update to Android 4.3, with the Galaxy S3 having completely missed 4.2. Supposedly, the new firmware would roll out in phases to these ‘older’ devices right after the Galaxy S4 receives it.
Update news gets people excited, even over the smallest indication that an update could possibly be coming a user's way. I feel like this might be the case with the allegations from Android Geeks that the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 will be getting their share of KitKat in late Q1 of 2014, meaning: March. This information came from an anonymous Samsung software engineer and if it does turn out to be true, then I deeply apologize.
On the other hand, we did cover a leaked picture about a month ago from iTechAddict which shows a schedule of expected KitKat update releases to the Galaxy S4, Note 3, Galaxy S3 and Note 2. The list does indicate that these older devices would indeed receive the new firmware between March and April 2014. So far, however, none of the other devices are on track, although the official update rolled out to Note 3 owners in Poland last week. There's still a week and a half left of January, so more official KitKat updates could still happen.
