Namaste Moto!: Moto G and Moto X coming to India

We kind of already knew that the Moto G would launch in India, based on the Moto G Tweet a couple of months ago that included ''Namaste'' amongst its list of global greetings. But now we know that the Moto G may will be arriving in India in the last week of January - that's next week! The Moto X will reportedly also launch not long afterward, most likely in February, expanding Motorola's new global release of two of the best smartphones around.

The Moto G will herald the return of Motorola to India, after the company left the subcontinent in 2012. With Google steering the Moto ship these days, Motorola's re-entrance to India may mean big things for Android fans there. The Moto G is far and away the best Android device available for under $200, and it could well bring a minor revolution to Indian citizens not quite willing to shell out $500+ for a cutting edge Android smartphone (or not willing to fork out their hard earned cash on cheap handsets of debatable quality). The Moto G quite simply brings the best that Android has to offer for a very, very low price.

The Moto X is apparently not far behind either, for those wanting an even more premium feel, although there is no confirmation of its launch date from a Motorola employee. The Moto X will of course have it's always-on language core listening out for your commands, and it's superior software and hardware optimization means you should get plenty of battery life out of a single charge. The best news for Android lovers is that both devices will get firmware updates light years ahead of the rest of the manufacturers out there. As you may recall, the Moto X even beat the Nexus 4 to Android 4.4 KitKat in the US – the first time any non-Nexus device has been beaten to the punch. The Moto G and Moto X will most likely launch in India with the most current Android version out of the box. Here's a quick comparison of the technical specs:

The Times of India reportedly got the heads-up in the aftermath of the CES last week in Las Vegas. While we already knew the Moto G would go global and that it wouldn't be far away, it's nice to have some confirmation:

[The Moto G] is going to be price competitive... if you look at what the device offers, the kind of responsiveness and performance it has, Moto G will be competitive with its peers. - William Moss, Director of Corporate Communications, Motorola Mobility

There's no word yet on the official Indian price of the Moto G or its specific availability in various markets, but the device is selling in the US for $179 and $199 for the 8 GB and 16 GB models respectively. It will undoubtedly be available in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore and other major centers initially with others to follow in the coming weeks. The Moto G will also launch in Dubai today. The Moto X has not yet been confirmed for a February launch, but when it is we'll let you know.

Will you be picking up one in the coming weeks? Which Moto is your Moto?
