HTC USA tweeted some good news last night: the final KitKat software update on the HTC One has been sent to US carrier labs for testing and they expect certification by next week. This falls nicely into place with their recent open-door and transparent tendencies, making them, in our opinion, the best company when it comes to software updates, not necessarily in terms of timing but at least keeping everyone informed.

We put up a vote last week to see which company people thought is the best in delivering updates: so far, 58% voted for Samsung, which sort of blew our minds, since Samsung’s 4.3 updates had everyone complaining. Maybe outlooks will change with HTC USA’s recent tweet:

If you take a look at the infographic below on how HTC manages its Android operating system updates, they’ve spelt it out to us quite clearly on how it works every step of the way. Certification, which will happen next week, is after stage 10: carriers check for bugs and fix them before moving on. If the software passes regulatory, industry and Google testing, then they’ll get technical acceptance from the carrier, followed by Google’s own technical acceptance. After that it’s straight to OTA (over-the-air) servers, which then push the firmware to customer devices. So, this all means good news for HTC One owners with the update not too far down the road.

Are you an HTC owner in the US? How has your experience with HTC been in terms of software updates? Would you say you are a happy customer?
